Healthy Meal Planning: 3 Easy Steps To Eating Success

In fact, with a little planning and practice, food prep can be fun and healing!

As your skills grow, you might even fall in love with the therapeutic process of food creation, but I find many clients need some simple steps to aid meal planning and ease the transition.

As the saying goes ‘food is medicine’ so let’s take a look at how to maximise your nutrient intake, reduce unhealthy option consumption and create yummy, healthful meals that tantalise your tastebuds.

1) Mix up your macros

There are components in a meal that help to moderate blood sugar response, positively change your hormones, blunt your appetite and boost healing and energy.

These include protein, fat, low glycaemic load carbohydrates and, of course, fibre.

By ensuring these are included in your meals, you’ll experience greater satiety so you will naturally choose to eat less…

Plus, the varied texture and taste will provide the mouth feel and flavour that encourages healthy food choices because it’s easy and enjoyable.

Fill half your plate with leafy greens and salad or veggies.

Drizzle balsamic vinegar and pure virgin olive oil, with a pinch of sea salt, for a delish salad dressing.

Use herbs and spices to pack a flavour filled punch in all the right ways.

Include healthy protein.

If you are looking to shed body fat, a portion of approximately the size of your palm is sufficient.

Options: Organic meat, wild caught fish, legumes, and leafy greens like kale and wild spinach.

Fats for wellbeing and a slimmer silhouette.

Omega three fatty acids can ease appetite, reduce inflammation, and need to be eaten regularly.

Think: Fresh fish, virgin olive oil, organic flaxseed oil, walnuts and chia seeds.

3) Batch cooking

Rather than cook each meal just before you eat it, prepare in advance.

Set aside time, multiple your ingredients list, and get to work creating enough meals for numerous days.

It’s much easier to plan on mass and prepare for days, even one week, in advance.
