I’m often asked about sugar cravings.

I’m often asked about sugar cravings.

And because they can sneak up and hamper your hard work, I wanted to share some of my favourite craving tips with you.

One even includes chocolate!

Proven tip #1 – Healthy fats

Healthy fats help to balance your blood sugar levels, avoiding the sugar crash that sends you reaching for the bickie jar. These come from foods like organic eggs and meats, coconut, chia seeds, avocado, fish, nuts and gorgeous nut butters…

Mmmm… I’m in love with nut butters and find these a great way for clients to curb their cravings.


Proven tip #2 – Wholesome proteins

When our blood sugars drop, cravings can be difficult to resist. By including wholesome protein with every meal… like fish, chicken, beef, chickpeas, lentils, nuts and seeds… you will feel fuller throughout the day and experience a reduced desire to snack in the afternoons and evenings.

And the preoccupation with thoughts of food?

These will significantly reduce, even disappear, too. (1)

As you can see, keeping your blood sugar even and stable throughout the day is really important for reducing cravings and helping you to get the lean body you want.

But the big question I’m often asked?

“What can I eat when I’m having a sugar craving!”

Proven tip #3 – Uncovering why you are craving sugar

There are emotional and physiological reasons why the cravings can hit.

Stress and anxiety create cravings because your body thinks it’s under threat and sugar provides the quickest source of energy to get you ready to run or fight…

To survive…

Then there are underlying biological triggers, like widespread candida and intestinal dysbiosis.

And for women, it’s normal to crave more sugar and carbs around that time of the month.
